The experience
The tour departs from your hotel and heads into the Italian Riviera, where San Remo's markets run on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and Ventimiglia's on Fridays. These are working markets, not tourist setups: leather goods, fashion accessories and clothes fill the stalls, and the pace is set by locals and serious shoppers. You'll have plenty of time to browse before the tour moves to the Casino, a liberty-style building that anchors the seafront, and the Ariston Theatre, known for hosting the annual pop song festival.
San Remo has long drawn Russian visitors. The Corso Imperatrice, lined with palms, was a gift from Maria Alexandrovna, consort of Alexander II, who wintered here in the 19th century. After the markets and landmarks, the route turns back toward Menton, passing the coast and stopping briefly in Menton itself (nicknamed "La Perle de la France," the Pearl of France), before returning to your hotel. The whole day runs five hours in an air-conditioned minivan with a driver-guide who speaks your language.
