The experience

The tour departs at 8:50 am from Lyon Office de Tourisme on Bellecour Square and travels by 8-seater minibus through the Beaujolais countryside. The route reaches Oingt, a village of narrow streets and stone houses where you walk the main street, visit Saint Mathieu church, and see panoramic views across rolling hills dotted with vineyards.

At a family winery, you meet the winemaker and walk the private vineyards while learning how Beaujolais is made. The tasting includes four or five wines (white, rosé and red) served in a relaxed atmosphere. Lunch follows at a typical Beaujolais bistrot serving regional cuisine. The guide translates the menu and explains each course. (Menus start at €20 per person and are paid separately.) After a 45-minute drive, the afternoon reaches Pérouges, a medieval town of cobblestone streets and stone houses built between the 13th and 16th centuries. You have 30 minutes of free time to explore craft shops or try the local galette pancake before the guide returns you to Bellecour Square by 5:15 pm.
