The experience
How does a city's music tell you what it is? This activity answers that by walking you through two neighborhoods (the Presqu'île and the slopes of Croix-Rousse), while a guide plays carefully chosen playlists at each landmark. You start at the Lyon Opera House, where the guide explains the building's place in the city's musical and urban history over centuries. Then you move to Croix-Rousse, a UNESCO World Heritage site where 19th-century textile workers called canuts once lived and worked, and where modern musical scenes emerged in the 20th century. The playlists shift as you walk, anchoring the history to sound.
Along the way you'll visit Europe's oldest active jazz club, learning its origins and listening to recordings that shaped it. You'll see a Gothic-to-Renaissance church where 17th-century music and history intersect, and a mural wall of fame. The walk ends at Satriale wine cellar, where a guided tasting of regional wines happens in a musical atmosphere. The bottle is included. The whole thing runs between two and a half and three hours, and a live guide speaks English, Spanish or French depending on the group.
