Step-by-step itinerary
Evening snowshoe walk and stargazing
- Drive from Levi to wilderness
- Put on snowshoes and walk
- Admire stars and Northern Lights
- Enjoy warm drink and snacks
- Drive back to Levi
The experience
Snowshoes and a thermal suit go on before the walk begins, but the drive out comes first: up to an hour heading away from Levi's lights into the Finnish wilderness where stargazing actually works. The silence of the snowy landscape is the point. You'll trek through forests and open areas with your guide, who offers tips on constellations and photography if the sky cooperates. If the Northern Lights appear, that's the night nobody forgets, but the walk stands on its own: the snow underfoot, the Arctic darkness, the vast sky above.
Midway through, you stop for a warm drink, fresh local sandwich and biscuits: enough to reset before heading back through the quiet night. Your guide carries a head torch. You get one too. The drive back to Levi gives you time to settle into what you've just seen. Professional photos taken during the walk are included, so you leave with images as well as the memory.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How far from Levi does the snowshoe walk actually go?
The scenic drive out takes up to one hour, moving deep into the Finnish wilderness well away from town lights. The walk itself covers snow-covered forests and open areas, but the exact distance depends on snow conditions and the group's pace that evening.
What happens if the Northern Lights don't show up?
The Northern Lights are never guaranteed, even in Lapland. The walk is built around the Arctic night itself (the silence, the stars, the snow), so the trek is worthwhile regardless. Your guide will point out constellations and explain what you're seeing in the sky.
Do I need to bring my own warm clothes?
No. A thermal suit is provided and included. Just let the operator know your size when you book. Boots are also provided in your size. If you're staying in Levi for several days, the operator suggests renting thermal clothing for your whole stay to stay comfortable between activities.
What's the physical demand like on this walk?
Moderate fitness is required. You'll be walking on snow in Arctic darkness for several hours, so stamina and comfort with winter terrain matter. The walk is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
How many people go on each walk?
Groups stay small: a maximum of eight guests per departure. That keeps the Arctic night quiet and gives the guide room to work with everyone's pace and interests.
