The experience

You arrive at the kennel in Veskoniemi and get a lesson in the basics of mushing before you head out. The guide walks you through how to handle the team, then you're in the sledge with your partner: one driving, one riding as passenger. At the halfway point you switch, so if you started as the passenger gripping the handles, you're now steering the huskies through the snow. The whole ride covers 10km and takes roughly 45 minutes of actual sledging time.

The dogs do the work, but you control the pace and direction. The guide travels with you, sharing stories about the team and the Arctic as you move through the landscape. After the ride, you head back to the kennel where there's time to play with the dogs, take photos and warm up with hot drinks and cookies before transport back to your starting point.
