The experience
You arrive in Saariselkä ready to chase the Aurora, and this activity puts you on a snowmobile heading into the darkness where the Northern Lights actually appear. The route follows easy trails through snowy forests and across gentle fell landscapes, moving away from town lights into the remote wilderness where conditions favor sightings. You'll ride for approximately 2 hours across the night, with your guide leading the way and stopping at a carefully chosen forest location partway through.
At the fire stop, you warm up with hot drinks and light snacks while your guide shares stories about the Northern Lights and life in the Arctic. The silence of the snow-covered landscape and the open sky above are part of what makes the search possible: no light pollution, no engine noise except your own machine. The activity lasts 4 hours total, including the drive time, the fire stop, and the return to Saariselkä. Winter adventure gear and a helmet are provided. You bring a valid driving license.
You can book this as a solo driver (riding your own snowmobile for an additional fee) or as a twin driving option, where you share a machine with a partner. Either way, the guide speaks English and leads the group through the same remote routes. The Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed, but the remote location and the timing (after dark, away from artificial lights) give you the best conditions the region offers when weather and solar activity align.

Is this one for you?Choose solo driving if you want to control your own machine and pace through the Arctic darkness. Choose twin driving if you'd rather share the experience and the snowmobile with a partner. Both routes follow the same remote trails and stop at the same fire location, so the difference is in how you ride, not where you go.
