The experience

The boat departs from Market Square, where you arrive 30 minutes early to board. From there the route traces Helsinki's waterfront, moving past the Old Market Hall and into the Kaivopuisto area with its beach cafés and open-air terraces. The cruise continues along Eiranranta, a stretch of shoreline lined with parks and newer residential development, before heading out to Suomenlinna, the sea fortress that sits on an island offshore. This is the furthest point of the route and the one stop where the boat's position changes the view most dramatically.

After Suomenlinna the route turns back toward the city center, passing Vasikkasaari and Kruunuvuorenranta before moving into Kalasatama, a district of modern waterfront architecture and residential blocks. Mustikkamaa comes next, followed by Korkeasaari, where Helsinki Zoo sits on its own island. The final stretch passes Katajanokka, a historic neighborhood with older buildings, before returning to Market Square. Throughout the 90 minutes, commentary in English, German, Finnish and Swedish plays over the loudspeaker system, identifying what you're seeing as you pass it.
