The experience
The tour starts at Jinka Airport, where your guide meets you for the drive to Alduba Market: a weekly gathering where Banna traders bring livestock and goods. You spend time walking through the market before heading to Turmi and into a Hamar tribal village, where you meet families in their compounds and learn how they live. That night you stay in Turmi.
Day two takes you to Kara (also called Karo) village near Korcho, where the tribe's name means "fish eaters" and their history is tied to the Omo River. You walk through their settlement, then drive to Kangaten to visit the Nygnangatom tribe, part of the Karamojon ethnic group, and wait for villagers to return from the day's work before entering their compound. You return to Turmi for the night.
On day three, you drive to Omorate and register at the immigration office, then cross the Omo River by traditional boat for a five-minute walk to the Dassanach village. After time with the families, you cross back and drive to Keyafer for the weekly market of Banna and Tsemay traders. If daylight allows, you visit the Maale tribe's market before heading to Jinka for the night. Otherwise you go straight there.
The final morning takes you through Mago National Park before sunrise, where the park's wildlife (greater and lesser kudu, dik-dik, baboons, gazelles) may be visible. You then enter the Mursi village, known for the women's lip plates and body scarifications. After time with the families, you stop at a viewpoint overlooking the park for coffee and tea, then drive back to Jinka for lunch and the airport drop-off for your flight to Addis Ababa.

Is this one for you?Your guide speaks English throughout, so you follow the commentary and stories without translation gaps: important when learning tribal history and cultural details that shape what you are seeing. The four-day length fits the major ceremonies and markets into a single trip for travelers who cannot spare a week, though it means moving between villages each day rather than staying in one place.
