The experience
The tour starts with a morning flight to Jinka and an afternoon visit to the Ari tribe, then moves through four days of tribe visits across the Omo Valley. Day two takes you to the Mursi people, known for the large circular clay lip plates worn by women. Day three is based in Turmi, where you'll visit the Hamar tribe (described as the friendliest in the valley), and attend their bull-jumping ceremony if the timing aligns during your visit. The final day visits the Dassanech, a nomadic people, before returning to Jinka for your onward flight or an extra night's stay.
Accommodation changes each night to match the region: Nasa Pension in Jinka on arrival and departure, Emerald Lodge in Turmi for the middle two nights. A live English-speaking guide leads the entire tour, and hotel pickup is included. Coffee and tea come with each day. The landscape shifts between savanna, forest and rivers, so the experience mixes cultural immersion with the geography that shapes how these communities live.
