The experience

You start from your Dahab hotel and drive 15 minutes by Jeep to the Canyon, where you spend two hours in the water. The Canyon's reef walls and coral formations run close to shore, so entry is straightforward and the depth suits different comfort levels. After the Canyon, the Jeep takes you off-road another 15 minutes to the Blue Hole, the site's most recognizable landmark: a circular lagoon cut into the reef with a passage to the open ocean beyond. The sheltered water inside is calm and clear, ideal for swimming and snorkeling at your own pace. Lunch happens at one of the restaurants on site, giving you time to rest and refuel before heading back into the water.

The Blue Hole's layout lets you choose your own depth and adventure. The lagoon itself is protected and shallow enough for anyone to explore comfortably. If you want to push further, you can swim out to the reef wall where the water drops and the marine life gets more dramatic. The ancient fossilized reef exposed along the shore is worth a walk if you want a break from the water, and the mountains above offer a view of the whole area. You return to Dahab at your own pace once you've had enough, so there's no fixed end time rushing you off the reef.

What time does the snorkeling start and how do I choose my departure?

You pick your start time at checkout: 9am, 10am or 11am. The Jeep collects you from your hotel and you're at the Canyon within 15 minutes, so an earlier departure gives you more daylight at both sites.

Is snorkel equipment provided, or do I need to bring my own?

Snorkel equipment is included: you get a mask. If you need fins, a wetsuit or a full set, bring your own or ask your hotel if rentals are available in Dahab before the day starts.

What is the Blue Hole actually like when you get there?

The Blue Hole is a circular lagoon surrounded by reef, with a narrow passage connecting it to the open sea. The water inside is sheltered and calm, perfect for snorkeling without current.
