The experience

The Blue Hole sits at the end of a camel ride across the Ras Abu Gallum Protected Reserve, not at a parking lot. You start at your hotel with pickup at 10 am, travel by jeep to the Canyon, then climb onto a camel for the 10-minute crossing to the water. That approach (crossing the arid landscape on the animal itself rather than watching it pass) shapes the whole day. Once you reach the Blue Hole, the snorkeling begins: hard and soft coral, angelfish, batfish, unicornfish and parrotfish move through the water around you.

Lunch is included and served during the day. After the Blue Hole, a boat takes you to Ras Abu Gallum for a second snorkel site, then returns you to where the jeep waits. The boat ride each way takes 30 minutes. All snorkeling equipment (mask and tube) is provided, so you bring nothing but yourself and a willingness to be in the water twice in one day.

The return journey reverses the route: boat back to the Blue Hole, camel back across the reserve, jeep back to Dahab, arriving around 5 pm. The full day runs eight hours from pickup to drop-off. An English-speaking guide travels with you throughout.
