The experience
The day starts at 9, 10 or 11 in the morning, you choose the time, and ends whenever you're ready to head back. Transport picks you up in Dahab and takes you to the Blue Hole, a limestone sinkhole that opens directly onto the reef wall. Once there, you put on the mask and enter the water with your guide to see the marine life of the Red Sea: schools of fish, coral formations and the geological layers exposed in the ancient fossilized reef along the shore.
The more adventurous can swim out to the reef wall itself to see deeper water and larger species. Between water time, the local restaurants offer lunch and a chance to rest. If you want to step away from the water, you can walk up into the mountains for a view of the area or along the shore to examine the exposed fossil reef up close.
When you're done, you return to Dahab by car or camel: whichever option you booked. Because you set the return time, you're not locked into a group schedule. You leave when you've had enough of the water.

Top questions
What do I actually do in the water at the Blue Hole?
You snorkel with a guide, wearing a mask, to see Red Sea fish and coral formations. The guide takes you through the site and can lead you out to the reef wall if you want to swim deeper and see larger marine life. The Blue Hole itself is a sinkhole that opens onto the reef, so you're in the water looking at both the formations around you and the life moving through them.
Can I choose when to start and when to come back?
You pick your start time from three options: 9, 10 or 11 in the morning. You return whenever you're ready, so the day length is up to you. There's no fixed group departure time.
What's included in the price?
Transport from Dahab, a snorkeling guide, lunch at a local restaurant, and a mask are included. Entrance fees for the Blue Hole are separate and paid on arrival.
How do I get to the Blue Hole? By car or camel?
You choose one option at checkout: travel by car or by camel. Both routes take you from Dahab to the site. The return journey uses the same method you booked.
Is there anything to do besides snorkel?
Yes. You can walk up into the mountains for a view of the area, or along the shore to see the ancient fossilized reef exposed in the rock. The local restaurants are also good places to rest and take in the atmosphere between water time.
