The experience

The day starts with a twelve-hour round trip from Hurghada, beginning at Karnak Temple: the largest ancient religious complex ever built, spread across 247 acres. Your private guide leads you through the site, then you cross the Nile to the West Bank where the real depth of the day unfolds. Valley of the Kings holds the tombs of Egypt's rulers from the 18th to 20th dynasty, including Ramses II and Tutankhamen. You visit three tombs, and if you want to enter Tutankhamen's tomb specifically, that costs extra at the site.

After the valley, the tour takes you to Hatshepsut Temple, built in three terraces that rise from the desert plain and merge into the limestone cliffs of the Theban Mountain. Then comes the Colossi of Memnon: two massive quartzite sandstone statues of King Amenhotep III, each rising about eighteen meters from the ground, all that remains of what was once the largest temple complex on the West Bank. Between stops, you'll have time to browse the famous bazaars in Luxor.
