Swim alongside sea turtles in Marsa Mubarak Bay

A full-day snorkeling activity in Marsa Mubarak Bay near Marsa Alam, where you board a boat at the marina, descend into the Red Sea with a professional guide, and spend the day swimming with sea turtles and exploring coral reefs and tropical fish. Hotel pickup and drop-off, snorkeling equipment, lunch on board, and an English-, German-, or Arabic-speaking guide are included; the national park entrance fee is paid in cash on site.

The Experience

Seven hours from pickup to return means you spend most of the day in the water. The boat leaves the marina and heads to Marsa Mubarak Bay, a protected snorkeling site where the seabed drops gradually and the reef stays close to the surface. Once anchored, you enter the water with mask, fins and snorkel provided, and a guide who stays with the group through multiple snorkeling sessions. The water is clear enough to see the seafloor from the surface, and the reef holds dense coral formations and schools of small, bright fish—parrotfish, damselfish, wrasse and others that move through the coral in loose clouds.

Sea turtles are the draw here. They graze on seagrass in the shallows and move slowly enough that you can swim alongside them without chasing. The guide positions the group to watch without crowding the animals. Between snorkeling stops, you rest on deck in the sun, drink water or tea, and let the boat drift. Lunch is prepared and served on board—a substantial meal that breaks up the afternoon. If conditions and sightings align, you may also spot a dugong, a marine mammal that feeds on seagrass and is rare enough that sightings are never guaranteed.

The activity includes a one-hour free city tour with a sunset option, though the timing and logistics of that addition depend on your departure time and how the day unfolds on the water. Hotel pickup and drop-off from Marsa Alam are included, so you do not arrange transport to the marina. Snorkeling equipment—mask, fins, snorkel and life jacket—is provided and fitted before you board.
