Snorkel with Turtles and Dugong at Marsa Mubarak Bay
Swim with wild turtles and hunt for dugong in a protected marine reserve
This eight-hour snorkeling activity from Marsa Alam takes you by boat to Marsa Mubarak Bay, a protected marine reserve where green sea turtles feed in shallow waters and the rare dugong occasionally appears. Two guided snorkeling sessions over vibrant coral reefs, professional equipment, lunch onboard, and hotel pickup and drop-off are included; dugong sightings are not guaranteed but the bay is one of the region's best-known habitats for them.
The Experience
Hotel pickup from Marsa Alam starts the day, followed by a transfer to the marina where you board a well-equipped boat for the cruise to Marsa Mubarak Bay. Your guide explains snorkeling guidelines and what to expect on the way. The bay itself is a protected marine reserve with calm waters, which is why green sea turtles congregate there to feed — you'll enter the water directly from the boat and snorkel over colorful coral formations with a professional guide alongside. Tropical fish move through the reefs in schools; the turtles are what draw most snorkelers, and they swim close enough that you can watch them graze on seagrass without chasing them.
Between the two snorkeling sessions, you return to the boat for a freshly prepared buffet lunch with soft drinks, tea, coffee and fresh seasonal fruits. The second session explores different parts of the bay, and this is where dugong sightings happen — they are rare and not guaranteed, but Marsa Mubarak is one of the few places in the Red Sea where they are regularly spotted. The afternoon return to the marina and transfer back to your hotel wraps the day.
