The Experience

The first thing I remember is the way the sky looked — just this thin purple line over Luxor, everything else still half asleep. Our driver picked us up while it was dark enough that even the street cats seemed confused. There was coffee waiting by the river (I tried not to spill it in my excitement), and then we crossed to the West Bank by motor boat.
