The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza and moves into Coptic Cairo, the oldest Christian quarter. The Hanging Church dates to the 3rd century and sits suspended above a crypt where the Holy Family is said to have sheltered. You'll also see a Jewish synagogue in the same district. Lunch (koshari, the Egyptian street dish of lentils, rice, pasta and tomato sauce) comes next, built into the day so you're not hunting for food between stops.
From there the route shifts to Islamic Cairo and Saladin's Castle, built in the 12th century to defend Egypt from crusader invasion. The Mosque of Muhammad Ali sits inside the fortress walls, its Ottoman architecture filling the courtyard. The Egyptian Museum comes last, where the Grand Hall opens onto the main collection. You'll have time to move through the galleries and the exterior gardens before the day ends.
A private car and guide stay with you throughout. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Arabic depending on which option you book at checkout. Eight hours is the full span, which means you're not rushed between sites but you're also not lingering for hours in any single place. Hotel drop-off closes the day.
