The experience
The tour starts with a three-hour drive from Alexandria port to Cairo in an air-conditioned vehicle. Day one focuses on the ancient monuments: the Giza Pyramids (including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Khafre's pyramid, and Menkaure's pyramid), the Great Sphinx, and the Valley Temple. From there you move to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid of Zoser, built around 2630 BC as the world's oldest major stone structure, along with the tombs of high officials and other pyramids. The day ends in Memphis, the first capital of Egypt, where you see the Statue of Ramses II and the alabaster sphinx before heading to your hotel for the night.
Day two begins with breakfast at the hotel, then a guided visit to the Egyptian Museum, which holds over 250,000 artifacts spanning 5,000 years, including the golden treasures of King Tutankhamen discovered in 1922. After lunch, you explore Old Cairo's religious sites: the Hanging Church (built in the 3rd century), the Ben Ezra Synagogue (dating to the 15th century), and the Mosque of Amr ibn Al-As, Egypt's first mosque. The tour continues to the Citadel of Salah El-din, where you visit the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali, built in Turkish style by the ruler who governed Egypt for 45 years (1805–1849). If time allows, you stop at Khan El Khalili Bazaar before the drive back to Alexandria port for your ship's departure.
Your guide speaks English and is available in Spanish, Italian, French and several other languages.
