The experience

The day starts with hotel or port pickup in Roseau and heads into Dominica's interior on the Middleham Falls trail, part of the world-famous Waitukubuli National Trail. The hike is medium difficulty and takes 125 minutes round-trip. You'll climb to the tallest waterfall in the Eastern Caribbean and swim in its pool before heading back down. The trail is not easy. Bring water, wear proper footwear and come with at least a moderate level of fitness.

After Middleham, the guide takes you to Ti'tou Gorge, where the real test begins. You'll swim upstream through the gorge to reach a hidden waterfall, the kind of place that shows up in films. Life jackets are provided and required for the gorge swim. The water is cold and the current is real. This is not a passive float. If you can't swim or prefer to skip it, the guide notes it's okay to sit this one out, though most travelers come ready to go.
