You walk 4 kilometers through Copenhagen solving location-based quests at Tivoli Gardens, Strøget, Gråbrødretorv, Round Tower, and Nyhavn, collecting words that reveal a secret message. The guidebook and solution card are yours to keep; you pause and restart whenever you want, with café recommendations included along the way.
Picture yourself standing in front of Tivoli Gardens—the world's third-oldest amusement park, opened in 1843—with a pen in hand and a puzzle to solve. That's how this self-guided treasure hunt in Copenhagen starts. You're not rushing through with a group or following someone's script; you're walking at your own pace, collecting words at each stop that will eventually unlock a secret message. The tour takes you past the Round Tower (built in the 17th century by King Christian IV as an observatory), through Strøget—which was the world's longest pedestrian street when it opened in 1962—and down to Nyhavn, where the canal was dug by hand between 1671 and 1673 by Danish soldiers and Swedish war prisoners.
What makes this different from generic treasure hunts you'd find in any city is that it was designed by Copenhageners specifically for Copenhagen. Every quest, every stop, every detail ties back to Danish history and culture. You'll pass the city hall and learn about the founder; you'll visit Gråbrødretorv, a square named after a monastery that stood there from 1238 to 1530, and solve a quest using the beautifully colored houses as clues. The tour also teaches you about the Great Copenhagen Fires that wiped out most of the city's medieval and Renaissance buildings. You get a guidebook, a solution card, and a pen—that's it. No earpiece, no guide talking at you, no fixed schedule.
The whole walk is 4 kilometers, and you can pause whenever you want. Coffee, restaurant, and ice cream recommendations are built into the experience, so if you need a break or want to actually step inside an attraction like the Round Tower (entrance not included, but the quest works without it), you just pause the hunt and pick it up again. You're solving logic puzzles, spotting hidden items, and using teamwork if you're with others—but you're doing it on your terms, at the pace that feels right.
