Copenhagen walking tour with food tasting

- See Amalienborg Palace
- View Gefion fountain
- Taste smorrebrod and snap liquor
- Stop at Danish gastronomic market
The experience
Amagertorv, the heart of Copenhagen's pedestrian Strøget, is where this tour begins: one of the city's oldest squares, named for the Amager farmers who sold produce here in the Middle Ages. From there the route moves through narrow streets and past Renaissance buildings to Christiansborg Palace, the former royal residence, then down to Nyhavn Canal with its coloured facades. The walk takes in Amalienborg Palace, the current home of the Danish Royal family, and the Gefion fountain before arriving at the restaurant.
The smorrebrod tasting is the anchor of the final stop: you'll choose from a selection of traditional open-face sandwiches (curried herring, egg and shrimps, breaded fish fillet with homemade remoulade, roastbeef, brie) paired with a snap, the traditional Danish liquor. The restaurant itself sits in a building that was a Royal pharmacy in 1669 and now serves Danish food made with respect for the country's gastronomic history. After the meal, there's an optional stop at Seaside Toldboden, a famous Danish gastronomic market in the port where seven internationally recognized chefs work. Any food or drink there is at your own cost.
The whole tour runs two hours. Walking is the only way to move through the old city, so comfortable shoes matter. A live guide in your choice of English, Spanish, Italian or French leads the group through the streets and explains what you're seeing at each stop.
