The experience

Eleven hours on rough mountain tracks means you see the Troodos the way most visitors don't. The day starts at Dipotamos Dam for a photo stop, then heads into Lefkara, the village known across Cyprus for hand-made lace and silverware. You get a welcome drink and time to walk the narrow streets. From there the 4x4 climbs into Mesa Potamos Forest, where you follow the river upstream on a small trek through pine and lush vegetation. The forest walk is optional but most people do it for the photography alone.

Lunch is meze-style in a village taverna: fresh local dishes with vegetarian options, plus a glass of wine or soft drink included. After eating, you drive to a mountain waterfall where ice-cold water drops 20 meters down a rocky cliff. It's cold enough that most people wade rather than swim, but the pool is there. A local winery comes next for free wine tasting of regional varieties, then the tour finishes in Tochni village, where narrow streets and a Cypriot coffee in a traditional kafenion round out the day before the drive back to your hotel.

The 4x4 vehicle handles terrain a regular car cannot, which is why the route reaches these spots at all. Transport, lunch with a drink, and your guide are all included.
