The experience

You pick a start time (9am, 10am, 1pm or 2pm), and drive yourself to Latchi Harbour, about 45 minutes north of Paphos. Once there, the staff run through a quick safety tutorial on the Capelli Tempest Easy Line boat, then you're free to steer. The 80-horsepower engine handles smoothly enough that first-timers manage it without fuss. You set the route: cruise the turquoise shallows around the Akamas Peninsula, drop anchor in a cove nobody else has found that day, swim and snorkel with the masks and snorkels on board, or just float under the awning with a drink from the coolbox.

The boat fits five to six people comfortably, so a family or small group travels as a private unit with no strangers aboard and no schedule but your own. Lifejackets, a shower, sunbathing cushions and a ladder for climbing back in are all there. The USB Bluetooth stereo plays whatever you want. You return to Latchi Harbour at the end of your rental window, and fuel (roughly €50 for a three- to four-hour outing) gets settled then based on what you actually burned.

Getting to the harbour is the one logistics piece you handle yourself, unless you book the transfer option from your Paphos hotel. If you do, the boat rental cost stays the same.
