The experience

The tour starts at Seru Boca Marina, a gated area within the old Santa Barbara Plantation grounds, where you board the Galaxie: a spacious 48-ft sailing yacht reserved only for your party. From there, the crew motors upwind through Spanish Waters, a large natural lagoon with a single opening to the sea, for about 30 minutes. You'll pass Santa Barbara Beach, now home to Sandals Resort, before the boat sets sail into the Caribbean Sea for another 30 minutes to reach Fuik Bay.

Once anchored in Fuik Bay, you have roughly two hours to move at your own pace. Snorkel through the mangroves (a habitat for sea turtles, colorful fish, baby barracudas, starfish, and occasionally rays or octopus), or swim to the small beach and lounge on deck. The crew serves a Mediterranean-style tapas and sharing platter (vegetarian and gluten-free options available on request), with soft drinks, bottled water, and a selection of beer, hard seltzers, white wine, rosé and sparkling wine. Snorkeling gear and floaties are provided, along with reef-friendly sunscreen and towels.

The return journey takes about an hour. Weather permitting, the captain hoists the sail for the Caribbean portion, giving you a final view of Curacao's coastline as daylight fades. The boat arrives back at the marina around 6 PM. The crew notes that no guest has reported seasickness on board, a reflection of the yacht's smooth motion and the relaxed pace throughout.
