The experience

The boat leaves with your group and a captain who knows the coast. A guide joins you to point out the best snorkeling spots and the wildlife that moves through them (rays, turtles, reef fish), and to steer toward the mansions that line the shore if that's what catches your eye. Spanish Waters, Fuik Bay and Caracas Bay are the main stops, each one a different reef or sandy bottom, and you choose how long to stay at each one. Three hours on the water means you're back by early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day open.

Snorkel masks, fins and floaties sit ready on board. You bring nothing but a swimsuit. Bottled water, soda and snacks are there the whole time, along with a bottle of champagne and local rum if your group wants them. A Bluetooth speaker plays your own playlist, or the boat's music if you prefer. The boat itself is the luxury part: no crowding, no schedule but your own, no other tourists deciding where the group goes next.
