The experience

Seven hours is enough to move through several distinct landscapes without rushing any single stop. The tour starts in the Jan Thiel district with views over Caracas Bay and Spanish Water Lagoon, then swings inland to the Curaçao Liqueur Distillery, where the production of the island's signature blue liquor is on display. From there the route enters Scharloo, the historical quarter whose colonial architecture sits on the UNESCO World Heritage List: enough time to walk and photograph the buildings without a lecture that outstays its welcome.

The second half trades town for coast. Boka Tabla in Shete Boka National Park shows the rugged northern shoreline where waves crash against the rocks. The salt lakes of Jan Kok offer a chance to spot flamingos from the bus. Groot Knip Beach, one of the island's most photographed stretches of sand, is where the tour stops for a swim. Lunch happens at Dokterstuin before the drive back to your hotel.
