The Experience

The first thing I noticed when I picked up my bike was the faint scent of pine and salt in the air—classic Ugljan. The rental spot sits just a short walk from the ferry, so you don’t waste time getting started. The staff handed me a paper map (plus a digital one, just in case my phone died) and pointed out a few hidden coves I’d never have found on my own. Helmet on, I set off, the morning sun already warming the stone walls lining the narrow lanes.

Riding through tiny villages like Preko and Kali, you’ll hear church bells echoing over olive groves. Sometimes you’ll pass an old fisherman patching his nets or kids zipping by on their own bikes—everyone seems to know each other here. I stopped at a bakery in Sutomišćica for a still-warm burek and ate it by the harbor, watching boats bob gently. The route isn’t marked with big signs, but the instructions are clear enough that I never felt lost—just free to explore at my own pace.
