You’ll ride an open tuk tuk up through Biokovo Nature Park from Makarska, stopping for island views and homemade cherry liqueur before stepping onto Croatia’s famous glass Skywalk with skip-the-line entry. Expect laughter with your guide, fresh mountain air, and time to soak up every wild detail above the Adriatic.
There was this weird little silence right before we reached the glass Skywalk — just the hum of the electric tuk tuk and the wind getting sharper as we climbed higher above Makarska. Our guide, Ivana, pointed out these wild goats on a rocky ledge (I almost missed them, honestly), and she laughed when I tried to say “Biokovo” correctly. The road twisted up through Biokovo Nature Park, and I kept thinking how different pine smells at 1,200 meters — it’s colder, almost metallic.
The first photo stop hit me harder than I expected. You step out and there’s this sweep of islands floating in blue haze below. Ivana handed us homemade cherry liqueur (I think her uncle makes it?) and some chocolate that stuck to my fingers. We stood there sipping and squinting at the horizon while she told us stories about old mountain villages — something about smugglers hiding from storms. I still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic back home.
Walking onto the Skywalk itself was stranger than I thought it’d be. The glass felt solid but my knees weren’t convinced; you can see straight down to nothing but air and rock. Some people shrieked, others just shuffled along gripping the rail. There’s no rush though — plenty of time to take photos or just stare out over Makarska and the Adriatic. On the way back in the open tuk tuk, sun on my face, I realized my hair smelled faintly like pine sap and liqueur. Not a bad souvenir.
Your day includes free pickup from your hotel in Makarska by electric tuk tuk, all entrance fees to Biokovo Nature Park with priority skip-the-line tickets for the Skywalk experience, bottled water to keep you refreshed in the mountain air, homemade cherry liqueur tasting paired with traditional Croatian chocolate along one of two scenic photo stops, plus a friendly local guide who shares stories in English, German or Croatian before dropping you off back in town.
