The experience
The day starts in the village of Zadvarje with a stop at the Gubavica waterfall viewpoint overlooking the canyon where you'll spend the afternoon. After a short briefing, you'll drive to the warehouse to gear up: a full-body wetsuit, life jacket, harness and helmet all provided. The guide runs a safety talk there, then again once you reach the river after a 10-minute walk down into the canyon.
For the next 3 hours, you move through the water with your guide (an instructor certified by the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service) jumping, swimming and navigating the canyon floor. The jumps are optional and range up to 12 meters high. Most of the time you're swimming in rapids and in water so clear you can see the bottom. The guide stays with your group the whole time, and because the groups stay small, you get attention and the pace adjusts to the people in it. Photos taken during the tour are free and yours to keep.
You'll need to bring swimming clothes, a towel, and running or hiking shoes. Canyoning shoes are available to rent for 5 euros per pair if you don't have your own. The activity suits anyone with moderate fitness who can handle a steep walk down and several hours in cold water. A live English-speaking guide is included, and hotel pickup is available depending on which option you book.

Is this one for you?The small-group format and optional jumps suit anyone who wants the adrenaline of a canyon without the pressure to jump. You swim and explore at your own pace while the guide stays with you the whole time. Moderate fitness and comfort in cold water are what matter. The 10-minute walk down and 3 hours in the river are the real demands, not the jumps themselves.
