The experience

You board a private speedboat in Hvar harbor and head out with a skipper who knows the Adriatic's timing. The Blue Cave on Biševo Island is the first stop: sunlight streams through an underwater opening at midday and fills the cave with an electric blue glow. Your skipper monitors the online ticket queue and can time your arrival to dodge the worst waits. The cave itself takes about 10–15 minutes to explore, and a small transfer boat takes you inside (weather permitting). The entry fee is €18 in shoulder season or €24 at peak, paid in cash or card when you arrive.

From there, the boat cuts toward Vis and Stiniva Bay, a cove framed by limestone cliffs that narrow to just 4 meters wide at the entrance. Once inside, the bay opens into a natural amphitheater ringed by 35-meter cliffs and clear turquoise water: a former cave whose roof collapsed centuries ago. You get time to swim, snorkel or thread through the narrow passage if you want. The Green Cave comes next, glowing emerald instead of blue because sunlight filters through a ceiling opening and bounces off the white seabed below. Entry is €8–12, and the wait is usually shorter than the Blue Cave. You can swim inside the cave or cliff jump from the rocks. Budikovac Blue Lagoon, a tiny uninhabited island, offers a shallow sandy bay with water so clear the gradient of blues is visible from the boat. You anchor here to swim, snorkel or rest on the small pebble beach.

The final stretch takes you to the Pakleni Islands: first Zdrilca Beach, a sheltered cove in the archipelago with pine trees and a seaside restaurant, then Palmizana, the largest island in the group. Palmizana has an elegant beach club, restaurants and a botanical garden. It's where most groups spend their last hour before the return to Hvar. The boat carries snorkeling gear, bottled water, an icebox and a bathing ladder. Your skipper speaks English and can play music over the boat's Bluetooth speakers. The whole day runs 8 hours from pickup to drop-off.
