The experience
The tour starts at Curi-Cancha, one of the area's premier birdwatching sites, where your guide uses a spotting scope to help you locate species moving through the canopy and open areas. From there you move into the Cloud Forest itself, crossing the continental divide and walking the famous suspension bridge while the guide points out the layered forest structure and the hummingbird garden where several species feed. Because this is a private tour, the pace and stops shift based on what's active and what interests you. If a troop of monkeys appears, you stay. If the light is wrong for a particular bird, you move on.
As evening approaches, you head into a property with forest, open areas and plantations where nocturnal animals become active. The night walk is where the guide's knowledge becomes most useful: frogs call from the understory, insects emerge, and the forest transforms into a completely different ecosystem. The spotting scope and the guide's experience with local behavior patterns give you real chances to see creatures most visitors miss entirely.
The tour runs eight hours total. A local guide fluent in English or Spanish leads the experience, and children from age three are welcome. Entry tickets to Curi-Cancha, the Cloud Forest reserve, and the night walk property are not included in the tour price and must be purchased separately. Private transportation to and from your hotel is also arranged outside this booking.
Is this one for you?Because this is a private tour, you control the pace and the guide adjusts stops to follow active wildlife and your interests: ideal if you want to linger when animals appear rather than move on with a fixed schedule, or if your group has specific species you're hoping to find.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 9 years). Children under 3 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between Curi-Cancha and the main Cloud Forest reserve?
Curi-Cancha is an open-area reserve focused on birdwatching and wildlife spotting in clearings and light forest, while the Cloud Forest reserve itself is denser, older-growth forest where you walk suspension bridges and see the continental divide and hummingbird gardens.
Will I actually see quetzals and monkeys, or is that just what the tour hopes for?
The guide uses a spotting scope and knows where animals are most active by season and time of day, which gives real chances to spot them, but wildlife sightings are never guaranteed: the tour adjusts stops based on what's actually moving that day.
What happens during the night walk, and is it safe?
The night walk explores a forest property after dark when nocturnal frogs, insects and other creatures become active. The guide leads you on foot with a light, pointing out animals and explaining their behavior. It's a standard naturalist experience, not an extreme hike.
Do I need to be very fit to do this tour?
The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, though it involves walking on forest trails and suspension bridges for eight hours with breaks. It's not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health.
Can the guide adjust the itinerary if I'm more interested in birds than mammals, or vice versa?
Yes, because it's a private tour, the guide can shift focus and timing based on your interests and what's active that day, spending more time at stops that match what you want to see.
