The experience

Meet at the dive shop in Tamarindo at 6:40 am to fit your wetsuit and fins. The divemaster handles the rest of the gear on the boat. After paperwork is done, you board at Tamarindo Beach for a 45-minute crossing to the Catalina Islands. Watch the water as you go: dolphins and rays sometimes surface near the boat.

At the Catalinas you make two dives in two different locations. Between dives, the boat offers snacks and soft drinks while you rest and move to the next site. The marine life here includes turtles, eagle rays, sharks and manta rays. You're back at the beach around 12:30 pm.

Pickup is included from hotels in Tamarindo or Langosta. Bring a copy of your dive certification and your passport: a photo on your phone works. The divemaster speaks English, Spanish or Italian. Children from age 10 can join if they hold certification.
