The Experience

You kind of feel it the second you step into Parque San Antonio — not just the traffic noise or the pigeons, but something heavier under all that. Our guide, Paul, waved us over to this odd sculpture (I’d never have noticed it on my own) and started talking about what happened here years ago. I caught a whiff of fried empanadas from a nearby cart while he explained how the park had changed — people used to avoid it at night. Now there’s laughter and music drifting in from somewhere behind the trees. It’s strange how quickly a place can flip its mood.

We wandered through these squares where kids darted between benches and old men played chess. Paul talked a lot about education — apparently schools were key in turning things around after so much violence in Medellin.
