The experience

The tour picks you up at your hotel at 9:15 a.m. and drives over an hour through mountain landscapes and small villages to reach the farm in the countryside. Once you arrive around 10 a.m., the guide walks you through the history and process of coffee production on the plantation, then takes you into the fields to pick your own beans: the part most visitors don't expect to do themselves. Refrigerators are available at the farm if you need them during the morning.

After picking, you move to the tasting area, where you'll learn how to taste coffee properly and sample around four different flavors from the region. Lunch is provided at the farm, and you'll receive souvenirs to take home. The whole experience is designed for all fitness levels, though a moderate amount of walking is involved as you move between the fields and the tasting areas.

You're back at your hotel by around 2 p.m., which leaves the rest of your afternoon free. The tour runs with a bilingual guide in English and Spanish, private transport, and private insurance included in the price. Families with young children can bring strollers, and service animals are welcome.
