The day starts with pickup from your hotel in Armenia, Pereira, Salento or Filandia—the operator arranges which one suits your arrival. You'll head into Cocora Valley, one of the few gateways to Los Nevados National Natural Park, a protected zone of snowy peaks that sits at the edge of the Coffee Triangle. The wax palms appear almost immediately: they're Colombia's national tree and the tallest palms on earth, and they dominate the open field in a way photographs don't quite capture. Your guide walks you through what makes them matter—their environmental role, their cultural weight in the country, and why this particular valley became a UNESCO Coffee Cultural Landscape.

The hike itself moves up and down through hills on trails that demand comfortable shoes and a steady pace. You'll pass traditional coffee farms worked by families who've held the land for generations, and the guide explains how the landscape and the altitude shaped the way coffee grows here. There are photo stops built into the route—the palms against the sky, the valley floor, the working farms—and time to absorb the scale of the place.
