The experience

You have a port day in Tianjin and want to see the city without arranging transport or worrying about timing. Your guide meets you at baggage claim around 8:30am, then drives you downtown in a private air-conditioned vehicle. About an hour from the port. The route takes you through the Five Great Avenues first, a district of over 230 buildings built a century ago in British, French, Italian, German and Spanish styles, a legacy of the late Qing Dynasty that locals call the World Building Exhibition.

From there you walk through Ancient Culture Street, a AAAAA-rated scenic area where you can browse folk crafts and sample local Tianjin snacks before lunch. The meal itself is Tianjin-style cuisine, included in the price. Afterward you visit the Porcelain House, also known as China House: a contemporary museum where the entire exterior is decorated with colorful chinaware cemented onto the walls, windows, doors, pillars and eaves. Your last stop is Jingyuan, the Former Residence of Puyi, the last emperor of China, who lived there from 1929 to 1931 with his empress and consorts. The guide walks you through the history and rooms before returning you to the port.

Bottled water is provided throughout the day. If you have dietary requirements (vegetarian, allergies, or other preferences), let the operator know at booking so they can arrange your lunch accordingly.
