Master tea brewing and taste how four varieties pair with chocolate, nuts and honey

A 90-minute tea workshop in Hong Kong where you learn to brew green, red and oolong teas using traditional Gai Wan vessels, taste four handcrafted varieties, and discover how to pair them with three snacks. The class is guided in English, Chinese or Cantonese by Vivian Mak, founder of MingCha, and suits both tea lovers and newcomers.

The experience

You'll start by engaging all your senses (sight, touch, smell, taste and the sound of a proper slurp) as the guide walks you through what makes each tea distinct. The workshop covers the three main tea classifications and how each one is produced, so you understand what's in your cup before you taste it. The hands-on core is learning the Gung-fu brewing method using traditional tea ware, which changes how the leaves open and release their flavor.

Four premium teas form the tasting: a scented green tea (the signature Jasmine Blossoms, served in a cocktail glass as your opener), a plain green, a red and an oolong. Each one is paired with a specific snack (dried nuts, dark chocolate or flower honey toast), so you see how the right pairing lifts both the tea and the food. This isn't a lecture. It's interactive and experimental, built around discovering how your own palate responds to the combinations.

The workshop runs 90 minutes and is wheelchair accessible. Public transport options are nearby, and the venue welcomes families with children. Your guide speaks English, Chinese or Cantonese, so you can book in whichever language suits you best.
