Bake Hong Kong egg tarts, mooncakes or almond biscuits from scratch, then walk out with the box

A self-service baking experience in Hong Kong where you follow a tablet recipe to make one of six traditional desserts (egg tarts, mooncakes, almond biscuits, sago pudding, red bean pastry or wife cake) entirely by hand, from mixing to packaging. A baking ambassador stays on site to help if you get stuck. You take the finished product home in its box.

The experience

You arrive and pick which dessert you want to make: Hong Kong egg tarts, traditional custard mooncakes, ancient almond biscuits, sago pudding, red bean pastry or Chinese wife cake. A tablet walks you through the recipe step by step. Everything happens on your own schedule: no instructor leading a group through the same motions at the same pace. The baking ambassador is there to answer questions and help solve problems, but the mixing, shaping, filling and baking are yours to do.

The work spans the full three hours. You handle every stage yourself: measuring and combining the ingredients, working the dough or batter, forming each piece, adding the filling if there is one, and arranging them on the tray. Once they bake, you wait for them to cool, then pack them into the box you'll carry out. That box and everything inside it is yours to take away. The whole point is leaving with something you made.

This is not a cooking class with an instructor demonstrating at the front. It is not a tour of a bakery watching someone else work. You are the one doing the baking, with the tablet recipe and the ambassador's help if you need it. Children from age 6 can participate.
