The experience

Your guide and driver pick you up at your Guangzhou hotel or railway station and start at Baiyun Mountain, where the day opens onto gardens, a Buddhist temple and a bird park. A cableway ride takes you to the peak for views across the lush green slopes and the city beyond. The mountain sits on the northern edge of Guangzhou, so the ascent gives you a sense of the landscape before you move into the urban core.

From there you head back into the city to Canton Tower, the world's tallest TV tower. The fast lift carries you to the 433-meter Star observation deck, a 360-degree glass platform where you can see the old and new skylines of Guangzhou and the Pearl River stretching out below. The tower's distinctive silhouette, nicknamed the "Slim Waist", is visible from across the city, and standing inside it puts the scale of Guangzhou in front of you.
