The experience

Your guide and driver meet you at your hotel lobby at 9am and head straight to Reed Flute Cave, located 7 kilometers northwest of central Guilin. The cave itself stretches 500 meters long and descends 240 meters into formations of stalagmites, stalactites, stone pillars and curtains that have been building for 180 million years. It's why locals call it the Palace of Natural Art. You walk through the lit passages at your own pace with your guide explaining the geology and history.

After the cave, you drive about 3.5 kilometers to a tea plantation run by Guangxi's leading tea research institute. Here the staff walk you through the professional techniques of picking and tasting, then show you the full tea-making process step by step. A tea performance is part of the experience, and you taste the finished leaves. If you visit between April and October, you can pick leaves yourself. November through March the plantation focuses on the performance and tasting instead, since the plants aren't growing then.

The whole outing takes roughly 4 hours. Your driver returns you to your hotel when it's done. You choose pickup from either your Guilin or Yangshuo hotel at checkout.
