The experience

Your guide picks you up at your Guilin hotel and drives you first to Reed Flute Cave, where you walk through chambers lit to show off stone lions, miniature forests, crystal formations and pagodas carved into the rock. From there you head to Seven Star Park, the largest park in the city, which sits on the eastern bank of the Li River and blends karst peaks with over a thousand years of temples and historical sites. The park is often called a microcosm of Guilin's whole landscape.

Next is Fubo Hill, a 213-meter peak on the west bank of the Li River in central Guilin. You can climb to the summit for a panoramic view of the river, or explore the Pearl-Returning Cave and ancient Buddhist carvings carved into the rock face. The hill is named after a Han Dynasty general said to have subdued the river's waves.

The tour ends at Elephant Trunk Hill, Guilin's most recognizable landmark. The peak juts into the Li River in a shape that resembles an elephant's trunk drinking from the water: a silhouette you photograph from the No. 1 viewing platform. Local legend says the hill was once a celestial elephant sent to protect the city from floods. You stay here to watch the sunset before your guide and driver return you to your hotel.
