The experience

The day starts at 9 am with pickup from your Santiago hotel. At Cousiño Macul, you cycle through the Maipo Valley plantations with views of the Andes, then tour the 19th-century cellars (now a museum of old winemaking equipment), where the vineyard's iconic wines like Lota and Finisterrae were made. A sommelier leads you through tastings of the wines, explaining their aromas and flavors. You keep the branded tasting glass as a souvenir.

Santa Rita, founded in 1880 and declared a National Monument, holds deeper history. During Chile's independence war, 120 patriots sheltered in its cellars while being pursued by royalist troops. The vineyard's best wines (Casa Real and Medalla Real Cabernet Sauvignon) age in underground cellars built by French architects from lime and stone. You tour the same cellars and taste the premium selections, again with a souvenir glass to take home.

The tour is private and personalized for your group, with a professional driver who knows the region. If Cousiño Macul is closed on Mondays for maintenance, the operator substitutes Viña Concha y Toro or Haras de Pirque. You arrange lunch separately at a restaurant in the Chilean countryside.
