The experience

The day starts at your hotel and heads straight into Santiago's downtown core. You'll walk through Plaza de Armas, the heart of the capital and the point from which all distances in Chile are measured, where painters and street performers work daily. From there you move to Plaza de la Constitución, framed by the neoclassical Government Palace: designed by architect Joaquín Toesca and restored after the 1973 bombing while keeping its original lines. Cerro Santa Lucía, one of the city's most recognizable landmarks, gives you the vantage point for photographs and a view of how Santiago has developed since the Spanish arrived in the Mapocho Valley in 1540.
