You’ll swim alongside wild stingrays at Stingray City, snorkel vibrant reefs, feel starfish in your hand at Starfish Point, and maybe grab lunch at Kaibo or Rum Point Beach Club. This private Grand Cayman boat tour is relaxed but full of surprises — perfect if you want real moments on (and in) the water.
“You ever kissed a stingray before?” Cody grinned as he tossed the anchor overboard near Stingray City. I laughed, honestly a bit nervous — I’d seen videos but didn’t expect to actually stand in the shallow turquoise water with these huge, soft creatures brushing past my legs. The water was warm and clear enough to see every ripple in the sand. Our guide showed us how to hold our hands flat so the stingrays would glide right up. I tried (awkwardly) to give one a kiss for luck — apparently that’s a thing here — and got splashed in the face for my trouble. Everyone on the boat cracked up. It’s weird how quickly you get used to their slippery skin and calm movements.
The boat ride itself was half the fun. We zipped across North Sound with salty wind tangling my hair, passing other small boats heading out for snorkeling or lunch. At Starfish Point, everything slowed down. The beach was nearly empty except for a couple of kids poking around in the shallows. When I picked up a starfish (gently, like Cody showed us), it felt rough and cool in my palm — not what I expected at all. There was this quietness there, just soft waves and distant laughter from another group further down the sand.
We could’ve stopped at Rum Point or Kaibo Beach Club for lunch — just needed to plan ahead since they open later than you’d think (Cody warned us about that). Ended up grabbing cold drinks at Kaibo while watching pelicans dive for fish right off the dock. If you want something fancier, their menu looked good but we were too busy swapping stories about who got “kissed” by which stingray. On the way back, sunburned and happy, I realized how much being out on the water changes your mood. You kind of forget about your phone for a while. I still think about that view leaving Starfish Point — sky turning gold behind us as we headed home.
