The experience
The stingrays at Stingray City in Grand Cayman's North Sound don't hide. They glide straight toward you in water so shallow you can stand. You'll wade in and feel them brush past your legs, smooth and unhurried, while the crew watches to make sure you're steady. It's not what you'd expect from an animal most people avoid, and it changes how you think about them in about thirty seconds.
After Stingray City, the boat heads to Starfish Point on the north side of the island, where the snorkeling picks up where the rays left off. The water here is clear enough that you spot the starfish on the sand before you're even fully in: reds, oranges, purples scattered across the bottom like someone dropped them there on purpose.
