The Experience

I still laugh thinking about how nervous I was stepping onto that 28ft Grady White in Grand Cayman — I mean, I’ve seen boats before, but this felt different. Maybe it was the way Captain Marcus grinned and handed me a cold bottle of water before we’d even left the dock. The air smelled salty and warm, and there was this low hum from the marina that faded as we pulled away. My friend tried to look cool in her sunglasses but she clutched the rail tighter than she’d admit.

The sun was hot on my shoulders and for a minute nobody said anything — just floating quietly, watching these odd little creatures move slowly under the surface. We grabbed sodas from the cooler and talked about nothing much until it was time to head back. I didn’t expect to feel so relaxed after only a few hours on the water.
