Step-by-step itinerary
Banana plantation and local fruit tasting
- Drive about 40 minutes to farming area
- Explore banana plantations and farming techniques
- Enjoy local fruit tasting
- Have a local drink by the sea
The experience
After a 40-minute drive from your hotel, you arrive at a working banana plantation where local farmers tend their crops and animals. The guide walks you through the growing techniques specific to Cape Verde's climate and soil, then you taste whatever is in season (coconuts, papaya, mango, sugar cane) picked fresh. This is not a manicured attraction. You're standing in an actual farm where islanders work their land daily.
The second half moves to the coast, where you settle in with a local drink and watch the black sand beach. The whole experience takes five hours, and the pace is built around the farm's rhythm rather than a ticking schedule. You can ask the guide about the crops, the seasons, the economics of farming on the island: the kind of detail that only surfaces when you're standing in the place itself.
