The Experience
You'll meet your detective guide at a secret starting location a short walk from Waterfront Station, at the edge of Gastown. From there, the investigation unfolds across the neighbourhood's cobblestone streets and historic sites. Work in your team to pick up clues, solve puzzles and piece together how Jimmy Capello was poisoned, strangled and stabbed. The game sends you past a seven-foot bronze angel statue that has stood at the CPR station since 1921, through the heart of Gastown's restaurants and shops, and to landmarks like the Flatiron building and Gaoler's Mews—the site of Vancouver's first jail. You'll walk roughly 2 to 2.5 kilometres over the two hours, so wear comfortable shoes and bring reading glasses if you need them.
There's no app to download and no wifi required—you're too busy exploring to look at your phone, though you'll want to take photos at the famous spots your team passes. Each team receives a detective kit with everything needed to play, and the game operates in all weather, so dress for the conditions. Your final challenge sits almost directly beneath the Vancouver Lookout, the observation deck at the top of Harbour Centre (admission to the Lookout is separate). Once you return to your detective after two hours, they calculate your team's score and award a team certificate and a souvenir sticker to each player.
Gastown itself is the real draw here—you're solving a murder while standing in one of Vancouver's oldest neighbourhoods, passing through areas that were saloons during the Goldrush and now house award-winning restaurants, sword-fighting schools and fabric shops. The game is designed for ages 12 and up, though children from age 6 can join with an adult. A minimum of 2 people is required per booking, and teams max out at 6 players. Before your game day, you'll receive a message with your exact starting location—if nothing arrives 24 hours before, contact the operator directly.
