Two hours at Moraine Lake means time to climb the Rockpile, paddle, or just stand there.

A guided tour from Canmore to Moraine Lake with optional Lake Louise, operating sunrise or daytime, includes hotel pickup from Banff, Canmore, Harvie Heights or Lake Louise, park entry fees, snacks and water refills, and a live English-speaking guide in a 14-passenger van. You choose how to spend your time at each lake—walk the shoreline, climb the Rockpile, rent a canoe during daytime hours, or take in the views. Tours run 5 to 7.5 hours depending on which lakes and time of day you select.

The Experience

The tour starts with pickup at your hotel or a designated point in Banff, Canmore, Harvie Heights or Lake Louise. You'll travel in a comfortable 14-passenger van with an English-speaking guide who shares local stories and practical tips during the scenic drive. The vehicle has onboard charging stations (bring your own cable) and you get light snacks and water refills along the way.

At Moraine Lake you'll have two unhurried hours. Some people climb the Rockpile for the panoramic view; others walk the shoreline or paddle a rented canoe if you're on a daytime tour. There's no schedule pushing you from one spot to the next—you move at your own pace. If your tour includes Lake Louise, you'll continue on for another two hours there, with the same freedom to hike, canoe or simply sit with the view.

The van drops you back at your hotel or the original pickup point. National Park entry fees and Parks Canada's 2025 Moraine Lake Road access fee are included, so there are no surprises at the gate. Sunrise tours depart early enough to catch first light at the lake; daytime options let you sleep in and still have the full experience. Choose one lake or both, depending on how much time you want to spend in the mountains.

Is this one for you?Book the sunrise option if you want the lake at first light and don't mind an early start; choose daytime if you'd rather sleep and still have unhurried time at the water. Add Lake Louise if you have a full day and want to see both lakes—the guide and van handle all the driving, so you just show up at your hotel.

Top questions

What's the difference between the sunrise and daytime Moraine Lake tours?

Sunrise tours depart early and have you at Moraine Lake as light breaks, with 2 hours there before heading back—4 to 5 hours total. Daytime tours leave later and give you the same 2 hours at the lake during daylight, also 5 hours total. Both let you walk, hike the Rockpile, or canoe; canoe rentals are only available on daytime tours.

Can I visit both Moraine Lake and Lake Louise on the same tour?

Yes. Both the sunrise and daytime options include a combined tour that visits both lakes, with 2 hours at each one. These tours run 6.5 to 7.5 hours total depending on whether you choose sunrise or daytime departure.

What's included in the tour price?

Hotel pickup from Banff, Canmore, Harvie Heights or Lake Louise; the guided van ride; National Park entry and the 2025 Moraine Lake Road access fee; light snacks and water refills; and an English-speaking guide. Canoe rentals, lunch and gratuities are separate.

Is there time to hike or canoe at Moraine Lake?

Yes. You have 2 hours at the lake to do whatever suits you—climb the Rockpile, walk the shoreline, rent a canoe (daytime tours only), or relax. The guide is there if you have questions, but the time is yours to use as you wish.

What if I'm not sure whether to book sunrise or daytime?

Sunrise tours catch the lake at first light and are quieter early on, but they start very early. Daytime tours let you sleep and still have the full 2 hours at the lake with good light for photos. Both include the same time at the lake and the same access to activities; it's really about your schedule and preference for morning or afternoon light.
