The experience
The tour starts in the early morning so you reach Angkor Wat before dawn breaks. Watching the sun rise over the main temple is the draw. It's the moment the site feels least crowded and the light hits the stone differently than it does later in the day. After sunrise, you move into Angkor Thom, the walled capital of the Khmer empire, which contains multiple temples inside its walls: Bayon, Phimeanakas, Baphuon, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, among others. Your guide decides the route based on what interests you and where the crowds are thinnest at that moment.
The afternoon takes you to Ta Phrom, where massive strangler figs and silk-cotton trees have grown through and around the ruins. This is the temple used in the Tomb Raider films. From there, you head to Tanei, a small, unrestored temple deep in the jungle, far quieter than the main sites. The whole day is private, so the pace is yours: you can linger at a temple or move on, and there's no group waiting. Transport is by air-conditioned vehicle, and your guide is a licensed professional who speaks English.
The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off, snacks and refreshment during the day, and fuel. The Angkor entrance ticket (a single-day pass costs $37) is separate and you arrange it, as is lunch, which runs $5 to $7 per person at vendors around the park. The whole experience takes between 6 and 10 hours depending on how much time you spend at each temple and how far into the jungle you want to go.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 15 years); Child (5 to 12 years); Infant (under 5).
What's the difference between Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom?
Angkor Wat is the main temple (the largest and most intact), and the one you watch the sun rise over. Angkor Thom is the walled city that surrounds it, containing multiple temples inside its own walls, including Bayon and several others. Both are stops on the same tour.
Will I be able to see the sunrise if I'm not an early riser?
The tour starts in the early morning to reach Angkor Wat before dawn, so yes. You'll be there for sunrise. The early start is the reason the site is less crowded at that hour.
How much walking is involved in a full day at Angkor?
The tour covers multiple temples across the complex, so there's substantial walking between sites and within each temple. The total time is 6 to 10 hours depending on your pace and interests, and you move on foot through the ruins themselves. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
What makes Ta Phrom different from the other temples?
Ta Phrom is known for the massive trees (strangler figs and silk-cotton trees) that have grown through and entwined around the ruins over centuries. It's the temple featured in Tomb Raider, and it looks far less restored than Angkor Wat or Bayon because the jungle has reclaimed much of it.
Is the guide included, or do I need to hire one separately?
A professional licensed guide who speaks English is included in the tour price. The guide navigates the temples and knows how to route around crowds based on the time of day and what's busy when you arrive.
